Richly illustrated catalogue from the exhibition of the same title. The publication was issued on the occasion of the beatification of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, the primate of Poland, and Sister Elżbieta Róża Czacka, founder of Towarzystwo Opieki nad Ociemniałymi (the Society for the Protection of the Blind). It is rich in photographs and extensive in content, the catalogue presents the contribution of the Roman Catholic Church and its individual representatives to the revolution of Solidarity and the defeat of communism in the 20th century. The publication includes, among other items, biographies of the chaplain priests of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union (NSZZ) “Solidarity” – special attention was paid to the profiles of Bl. Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and St. John Paul II.

The history of Solidarity abounds with examples of support which the Catholic Church has given to the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” in its peaceful fight against the communist regime. This commitment was rightly described by archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk in one of his 1982 sermons. “For a thousand years, the Church was with the Nation, and the Church will stay with the Nation, for better and for worse, because the Nation itself is the Church, and the Church is within the Nation.” The “Priests of Solidarity” exhibition restores the historical memory of those Catholic priests who supported the emerging structures of the democratic opposition in the People’s Republic of Poland and then the Union, who promoted solidarity demands, opposed the then government and left their eternal mark in the history of the fight against the communist regime; this exhibition was created with them in mind and with the aim to preserve their memory.
